My paintings are figurative in nature and my intention with it is to combine my experiences and past events. Formally I utilize loose gestural marks, which are abstract. The expression of these lines shows the journey and struggle that I have endured. Throughout the process, the creative principals of disharmony, asymmetry, fragmentation, and opposition are explored through abstracted portraits. I do not begin with the intent of the portraits representing anyone specific. Since my work represents a culmination of my experiences and past events, they end up developing into self-portraits of my inner being. Through this process I am able to better understand the meaning of the human existence, and to explore the cycle of suffering, fear, and spirituality. My portraits are an exploration of the cycle of the death and rebirth as well as the compromise between chaos and order.
The intuitive marks allow me to make sense of the world. Throughout my process of deconstruction and reconstruction, the gestural marks evolve into a portrait. The portraits are an accumulation of experiences throughout my lifetime, which is explored through the layers of paint and the transformational process the painting endures. I find comfort in my work as it allows me to represent my most honest and true self within the portrait.
